April showers bring May flowers, right? I took a moment away from the spin of work in April and it created some blossoms.
I found myself in quite the doldrums in April. It seemed as though I was walking through quicksand. Every time I completed a task it seemed as if there was another page of to do's added. As each day passed, I tired even more, really feeling the weight of my work.
One of the great things about coaching is that messages that you help your clients get through coaching often come at a time when you need to hear them as well. This was the case for me in April. When the third client in a week was coached to take a step back and re-evaluate, I heard the message the universe was sending me.
Here are the steps I coached my clients to take and I took as well!
- Take note of all of the things you are doing for some period of time. For my clients and I it was a week. Just make a list as you go through things.
- Go back to your list and rank each item, on a scale of 1-10, one being not at all and 10 being totally how important is this item in you reaching your goals? Also on a scale of 1-10 one being not at all and ten being totally how much does this task fill your tank or feed you? (How much do you enjoy it?)
- Assess your scoring and see what changes need to be made. What is missing from your list? How many tasks received high scores? What would make them higher?
- Rework your weekly plan. Make sure that there are tasks that are moving you toward your goals and tasks that you enjoy. If they score highly on both metrics even better!!
This process allowed me to see a few tasks that were extremely important to achieving my goals, that were not making it into my week. I was able to schedule some time into my calendar for them and refocus myself on their importance. I also realized many of the tasks were draining my energy and I did not have inspiration in my day. I was able to rework some of my time to have mood boosters interspersed in my day and my week.
Two weeks into my reworking I am feeling more alive. I have more pep and focus in the work that I am doing. I am also starting to see positive results. Even greater my clients who have worked through this process have also shifted their perspective and their moods! Blossoms have appeared! Take a step back from your work and re-evaluate how you are doing things so you can create more focus and energy. Reach out to Brenda to help you wade through.
